Creating a legacy of epic wildlife murals

Wildlife Walls is a grassroots public art & engagement project
It began in 2022 with a 120 ft Bonneville cutthroat trout mural in Salt Lake to celebrate Utah’s wildlife through large-scale murals. Led by artist Chris Peterson, and writer Brett Prettyman, in collaboration with Utah Wildlife Federation & dozens of partners, this grassroots project has turned blank walls across the state into monumental mural tributes to local species. These murals do more than brighten boring walls and revitalize Main Streets; they tell stories about the wildlife that shapes Utah’s identity. Each piece highlights a local species, using art and a custom QR code to bring awareness to the local habitats and creature stories. From small town main streets to bustling urban parks, these murals turn ordinary places into eye-catching, powerful reminders that wild animals are part of our communities in the American West.
