PRIVACY POLICY — WILDLIFE WALLS

Last updated: August 29, 2026

This policy describes how Wildlife Walls handles information in the Wildlife Walls iOS app and related trail content on wildlifewalls.org.

The app is a public map of the official Wildlife Walls mural trail in Utah, plus related artists, viewing spots, institutions, volunteer stops, and (once approved) businesses. It is a project of Wildlife Walls, in partnership with the Utah Wildlife Federation. Monumental murals on the trail include work by artist Chris Peterson and community partners.

---

1. WHO THIS APPLIES TO

This policy covers people who:
- Browse the mural map, list, and artist pages
- Create an account
- Save favorites, visited places, or trips
- Post comments, photos, issue reports, or feedback
- Submit a mural, viewing spot, landmark, artist claim, institution, volunteer stop, or business listing

You do not have to share a precise location to use the map. You can pan the map, search, and enter an address instead.

---

2. WHAT WE COLLECT, HOW WE COLLECT IT, AND WHY WE USE IT

We collect only what the app needs to run the trail. We do not use advertising networks, we do not sell personal information, and we do not use App Tracking Transparency or advertising identifiers. There is no Analytics, Firebase, Mixpanel, or similar tracking SDK in the app.

ACCOUNT AND PROFILE (IF YOU SIGN UP)

How: You create an account with email and password through Supabase Auth. There is no Sign in with Apple, Google, or Facebook in the app.

What:
- Email address and password (password is handled by Supabase Auth; we do not store it in the app)
- Display name (or artist / business / institution name)
- Account type (Community Member, Artist, Business, or Institution)
- Optional: bio, artist statement, website, phone, address, wildlife-related description, and a profile photo
- A unique account ID created by the sign-in service

Uses: Sign you in, show your profile, sync your saved places, and (for artists and institutions) publish a public catalog page when your profile is complete. Business listings are not shown on the public map until a moderator approves them.

LOCATION (OPTIONAL, WHEN THE APP IS IN USE)

How: If you allow it, iOS Location When In Use permission. We do not request Always location.

What: Your current coordinates while the app is open and permission is on.

Uses:
- Center the map on you and sort nearby stops
- Optionally place a pin when you add a stop (you can also tap the map or type an address)

What we do not do: We do not run a background location tracker. We do not share live GPS with advertisers. If you deny permission, the map still works and defaults to Utah. You can browse and submit using an address instead of GPS.

If you add a listing or a public artist/institution/business profile with an address, we convert that address to a map pin (via Apple Maps geocoding) and store those coordinates as part of the listing—not as a history of everywhere you have been.

PHOTOS YOU CHOOSE

How: Apple's photo picker (PhotosPicker / PHPicker). You pick specific images. We do not ask for your full photo library, and the app does not use the camera.

What: Images you attach as:
- A profile or page photo
- Photos with a new mural or place submission
- Community photos on a mural page
- Photos on an artist claim

Uses: Show your profile, review and (if approved) publish submissions, and display mural photos on the trail. Community mural photos can appear for other visitors after you upload them. Submission photos stay in review until a moderator approves the listing.

COMMENTS, LIKES, FAVORITES, VISITED PLACES, AND TRIPS

How: You tap or type in the app while signed in.

What:
- Comments: the text, the display name you post with, and which mural or place it is about. New comments stay hidden until a moderator approves them. You will see "Sent for review."
- Likes and favorites (the heart and Favorites list are the same save)
- Places you mark as visited
- Trip names and the stops you include (including an offline snapshot of those stops on your device)

Uses: Run the social trail, show public like counts, keep your personal lists, and let you take a trip offline.

SUBMISSIONS (NEW MURALS AND PLACES)

How: You fill out the add form (title, story, address or map pin, optional photos, contact details, and category-specific fields such as species, artist credit, hours-related tips, or amenities).

What: Everything you enter, plus your account ID if you are signed in. Submissions are stored as pending until a moderator approves or rejects them. They are not added to the official public trail until approved.

Uses: Review community additions to the Utah mural trail and, if approved, publish them on the map.

ISSUE REPORTS

How: On a mural page, Report an Issue (vandalism, broken QR/link, temporarily closed, hard to access, damaged or covered, incorrect info, or other).

What: The issue type, which mural, when it was reported, and your account ID if you are signed in.

Uses: Warn other visitors. Issue reports go live immediately (they are not held for approval) and stay visible on that mural for about seven days.

FEEDBACK

How: Profile → Feedback, or related in-app feedback.

What: The message you write (your display name may be included) and your account ID if you are signed in.

Uses: Product and trail improvements. Feedback is for the Wildlife Walls team; it is not posted on the public map.

ON YOUR DEVICE

The app also stores some of the same information locally (for example favorites, trips, a cached profile, map camera position, and preferences such as haptics) so the app still works when you are offline. That data stays on the device unless you sync it by signing in or you delete the app / delete your account.

INFORMATION WE DO NOT COLLECT

We do not collect payment card data (the app is free; there are no in-app purchases). We do not send push notifications. We do not use the advertising identifier (IDFA). We do not embed third-party ads.

---

3. THIRD PARTIES WHO PROCESS THIS DATA

We use Supabase (Supabase, Inc.) to provide:
- Account sign-in (Supabase Auth)
- The app database (Postgres): profiles, the official mural catalog, submissions, comments, likes, favorites, trips, feedback, and issue reports
- File storage for photos (avatars, submissions, mural photos, artist photos)

Supabase is a service provider that processes this data on our behalf so the app can function. They are required to protect it under their agreement with us and their own privacy policy (https://supabase.com/privacy). We do not sell your information to Supabase, and we do not authorize them to use Wildlife Walls user data for their own advertising.

Apple also processes limited data as part of iOS, the App Store, Maps (map tiles and address lookup), Location Services, and the system photo picker. That processing is governed by Apple's policies and the permissions you grant on your device.

We do not share your information with advertising networks, data brokers, or analytics vendors, because we do not use those products in this app.

Official trail images and pages may also be hosted with the same website that serves wildlifewalls.org. That is our public project site, not a separate advertising SDK.

---

4. HOW LONG WE KEEP INFORMATION, AND HOW YOU CAN DELETE OR REVOKE IT

WHILE YOUR ACCOUNT IS ACTIVE

We keep account, profile, synced favorites/trips/likes, and related records so the app works for you. Public trail content you contributed (once approved) remains part of the mural map unless we remove it for moderation or legal reasons.

Issue reports are meant to be temporary (about seven days on the mural). Feedback is kept so we can follow up; it is not shown to other visitors.

LOCATION AND PHOTOS — REVOKE WITHOUT DELETING YOUR ACCOUNT

Location: iOS Settings → Wildlife Walls → Location → Off or While Using. You can still use the map with the Utah overview or by typing an address.

Photos: We only receive images you pick in the moment. There is no ongoing "full library" access to turn off. To stop future uploads, do not pick more photos. To remove a photo already on your profile, edit your profile and clear it, or delete your account.

DELETE YOUR ACCOUNT (IN THE APP)

You can permanently delete your account in the app:
1. Open the Profile tab
2. Tap the Account button (•••) in the top right
3. Choose Delete Account and confirm

This removes your sign-in user and personal data: profile, favorites, visited places, trips, likes, artist-claim profile records, and mural photos tied to your account, and clears the matching data on your device.

Comments, submissions, feedback, and issue reports you already made stay in the system but are no longer linked to your account. Comments keep the display name that was posted with them and cannot be undone.

If deletion fails, try again or contact us.

OTHER WAYS TO REACH US ABOUT DATA

- In-app Feedback (Profile → Feedback)
- Phone: 435-259-5154 (listed in the project information shipped with the app)

Uninstalling the app removes local copies on that device. It does not delete your cloud account. Use Delete Account in Profile for that.

5. CHILDREN

Wildlife Walls is a public art and wildlife trail for a general audience. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have information from a child under 13, contact us and we will delete it.

---

6. PUBLIC INFORMATION

Some of what you provide is meant to be public if you use those features:
- Official mural map listings (our catalog)
- Approved comments (author name and text)
- Community mural photos you upload
- Live issue reports on a mural
- Artist and institution pages created from a complete profile
- Approved business listings
- Approved community submissions (murals, viewing spots, and other stop types)
